Kampong Chnang

Floating Village

After breakfast, a short local boat ride from our moorings found us at Kampong Chnang, one of the most important fishing villages on the Tonle Sap River. We had a wander round the local market where we were surprised to see old black and white TV's for sale. Makes you appreciate what you have as they have so little and most of them are so cheerful despite this. It wasn't a tourist market so there was nothing for us to buy to help support the local economy.

Already very hot at 9.30 am, we were glad to be back on the boat heading for the floating village. We were unprepared for how large it was. There must have been hundreds of these wooden structures all in rows of up to 10 on both banks of the river. Some of the structures were shops. There was even a floating school! The people who live in this floating community pay no taxes so its a great way to live on the cheap!

Back on board Mekong Prestige II to chill out on deck for the rest of the morning ☀️☀️☀️

After lunch we watched the dragon boat race pass us which is part of the water festival.

As we disembark tomorrow very early I guess its time to pack 😩😩😩
